THE BUILDING CONTRACT

Get your lawyer to check the building contract before you sign.

It is important that it protects your rights- and doesn't just protect the builder.
It should cover:

  • the construction quality
  • that the build will be to your plans
  • that there is a completion date and penalties for the build falling behind schedule
  • just what is included in the build price

ON COMPLETION

The contract should also ensure that on completion you will receive:

the building licence
the electricity installation certificate
and the architect's completion certificate.

    There is no magic formula- but it is obvious that a reliable architect who understands what
    you want and how much you are able to spend is vital.
